I hope I put this in the right spot...Anywho! If you're in Katie Hirsh's "Anatomy of a Video Game" class, this information is also available on the discussion boards there.

I just wanted to get the word out that ACM Siggraph's Student Volunteer applications are up. The deadline is Feb 24th, 2008.

Volunteer for 18 or 30 hours over the 5 day conference, and in return get access to the latest and greatest coming out of art, video games, animation and computer technology for FREE. There is also a huuuge job fair, an Emerging Technologies exhibit, not to mention a mecca of free stuff at the Expo Hall (I wear my free LAIKA shirts proudly), behind-the-scenes panels and both the Animation Festival and Electronic Theatre (which show some pretty incredible animations, some of which I think I've seen on CF and in this community too). They are switching a few things up with 2008, so we'll see what kind of new spin they put on some of the older exhibits. SV's also have special sessions with reps from studios like Pixar, Walt Disney Feature, EA, Sony, etc. which includes time to meet one-on-one with reps to go over reels and resumes.

Current students in high school, college or training programs (like Animation Mentor), as well as recent graduates from all over the world are welcome to apply. This also means you get to meet all these people too! The SV Committee also has housing and travel grants you can try for (housing is limited and the grants are around $100 though). They accept students from all disciplines, as long as you have an interest in art, computer graphics and/or technologies.

I've had the pleasure to volunteer at and attend the 2006 conference in Boston and the 2007 conference in San Diego. They were increeedible experiences and I'm very much looking forward to 2008 Smile If y'all have any questions, I'll do my best to help answer. I know I have bumped into Ms. Hirsh there as well. Hope to see you in LA!

It seems interesting but (unless I'm reading the official site wrong) only some of the volunteers geting their travel expenses paid for is a set back.
